Dog Show

Our Dog Show operates under Kennel Club rules.

In 1970 Mr. C. J. Bell (Kennel Club Liaison Representative) was invited by the Stithians President (Mr. J. R. Williams) & the Chairman (Mr. T. Paget) to a meeting to help and advise on the setting up of a Kennel Club Licensed Show. Mr C. J. Bell took over as Dog Section Chairman in 1977 a position he held for many years.

The first show, in 1971, was a Limited Show (confined to members of the Dog Section) with 37 classes and a total of 327 entries from 181 dogs. In the year 2000 this had risen to 194 classes with 739 entries from 662 dogs.

In 1978 the section had its first open show which has been carried on ever since.

Over the last few years our average number of entries has been eight to nine hundred with a couple of years exceeding eleven hundred. The number of dogs now entered is usually between six hundred and fifty and seven hundred and fifty.

Overseas Judges were first introduced in 1976 with a judge from Australia, but several years went by before we embarked on a run of judges from abroad. Over the years judges have been engaged from the U. S. A., Australia, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Hong Kong, Finland & Holland.
