It was in 1970 that Mr. C. J. Bell (Kennel Club Liaison Representative) was invited by the Stithians President (Mr. J. R. Williams) & the Chairman (Mr. T. Paget) to a meeting to help and advise on the setting up of a Kennel Club Licensed Show. A meeting was set up and officers and a committee were formed. Chairman Mrs. A. Lewindon, Secretary Miss S. M. Carkeek with a committee comprising Messrs Dubbin, J. Bray, T. Paget, J. Pascoe & C.J.Bell. Mesdames Harry, N. Leah, F. A. Russell & M. Brush.

In 1975 Mrs. F. A. Russell took over as Secretary with Mr J. Bray as Chairman.

Mr C. J. Bell took over as Chairman in 1977 a position he has held ever since. The new Secretary in 1978 was Mrs. J. Baker. Mr. C. J. & Mrs. P. M. Bell took over as secretaries 1981 and have been ever since. Other people involved in the section over the years have been Mr. J. Blewett ( Cup Steward) and Mrs. M. Sheppard ( Cup Steward/ Treasurer since 1984) & Mr. P. Sheppard.

The first show was a Limited Show (confined to members of the Dog Section) in 1971 comprised 37 classes and had a total of 327 entries from 181 dogs. In the year 2000 this had risen to 194 classes with 739 entries from 662 dogs.

In 1978 the section had its first open show which has been carried on ever since.

Over the last few years our average number of entries has been eight to nine hundred with a couple of years exceeding eleven hundred. The number of dogs now entered is usually between six hundred and fifty and seven hundred and fifty.

At the Annual General Meeting in November 2001 Mr. & Mrs. Bell resigned from the Secretaryship of the Dog Section and the post is now in the capable hands of Miss N. Mackie of Redruth.

Overseas Judges were first introduced in 1976 with a judge from Australia, but several years went by before we embarked on a run of judges from abroad. Between 1982 and 2000 judges have been engaged from the U. S. A., Australia, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Hong Kong, Finland & Holland.

The Judges from Australia came from Victoria & South Australia. Judges from America range from Maryland, New York, California, New Jersey, Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, and Indiana.
